Promotion Issues

One of my friend recently told me something absurd.

Her husband was about to get a promotion as it was promised by his manager.

But he didn’t get the promotion due to corporate and office politics and his junior got the same promotion instead.

He was quite dissatisfied and disappointed with the same and now working under someone younger than him made him feel even more insecure.

But because of financial constraints and other commitments, he couldn’t even leave the job.

I’m sure many of us have dealt with office politics at some point in our lives, just like when someone is bypassed for the much-deserved promotion because of internal politics and ends up reporting to a less capable person.

But some of us tend to get gloomy due to it.

This is something that no one can control but it affects our mental health at times.

What you can do is follow these simple techniques:

1) Communicate with the Boss:
– If your boss is understanding then this might be of use.

2) Stay informed:
– You should be aware of the little things that happen around in the office but remember this doesn’t mean gossiping.

3) Choose your friends carefully:
– You reap what you sow. That’s why it’s important to have real friends who actually care about you.

4) Don’t gossip:
– Gossiping leads to more office politics. Try to stay far from it.

5) Try for a team change or organization change.
– If it’s possible, try to apply for new teams or companies. It can divert your mind towards a new beginning.

6) Enroll yourself in leadership courses.
– If you have the bandwidth, enroll yourself in senior management programs being offered by top b-schools.

Most importantly, calm down.

It’s a situation that’s usually not in anyone’s hands.

And you can’t stop it, so try to bother less about it. Stay focused on your work.

Invest your time in Cross-Skilling & Up-Skilling yourself rather, watch documentaries, read books, etc.

Try to change your job if the environment gets too uncomfortable for you.

Remember, your hard work will definitely pay off one day.

Hope this helps!
