LinkedIn for Job Search

As promised a STEP BY STEP guidance on how to how to leverage LinkedIn for Job Search.

or let’s say – how to build your personal brand on LinkedIn.

Step 1) OPTIMIZE YOUR PROFILE:

– Add a professional profile picture (Remove the background using remove.bg).

– Add a LinkedIn COVER BANNER

Use Canva.com to design a professional cover banner.

Also, add a professional statement on the right-hand side of the banner. You can also view my profile to have a better idea.

– Update your BIO/ABOUT section

Use the description to sell yourself.
Tell your story, don’t sound robotic.
Share your past experience and services.

In the end, add a fun element to you. For eg: Dog Lover is, Conversation starter to connect with the reader on a personal level.

Use keywords from your industry for better search appearances.

– Update the SKILLS section

List your skills wisely depending upon what keywords your searchers might be using. Avoid listing random skills that no one might be searching for.

Also, ask your friends and professional network to Endorse you for your skills.

– Add EXPERIENCE and ask for RECOMMENDATIONS

Leverage the Experience section and list down all your past companies along with the exact duration.

Ask for RECOMMENDATIONS from previous employers and Teammates.

STEP 2) BUILD YOUR NETWORK:

Your network should include your competitors in the same field, HR Recruiters, and also some influential people on LinkedIn.

Start sending connection requests and always personalize your requests for more chances of it getting accepted.

Don’t write about yourself, greet them and give them a compliment and a reason why they should accept your request or simply state what’s common between you and them.

For Eg: ‘Hi Akshay, loved your recent post on humanizing the digital world. I feel we have similar thoughts. I would be glad to have you in my network of professional connections.”

Step 3) START POSTING valuable information from your Industry:

This includes your experiences, expertise on a subject or topic, industry updates, or even your personal thoughts and opinions.

Bonus Tip: Use Resume Worded to check your insights on how you can improve your profile for increasing your chances to be found.
