Many students do not realize the importance of writing a resume or they do not know how to write one properly.
I am sharing effective tips for writing a resume.
Resume templates and their content may vary from person to person according to their experiences.
But there are some basic things that every resume should cover irrespective of the field of the student/experienced candidate:
1) Your Resume Spikes:
– First thing the recruiter would notice is your resume spikes.
– It could be your high CAT/GMAT score and high academic scores.
– It could be your winning case competitions, scholarships, strong positions of responsibilities, extra-curricular, and certifications.
– It could be your brands like Big-3/Big-4 during internships.
2) Your LinkedIn Profile Username:
– It really creates a good impression if you mention your LinkedIn profile on your resume.
– Make sure your LI profile aligns with your resume.
– Make sure, your LI username should not include numbers/symbols.
3) Your Contact Information:
– Always include your email Id and mobile number.
4) A Vision and Mission Statement:
– Describe your objectives in 2-3 lines as a mission statement.
– This not only motivates you but tells them that you’re enthusiastic.
5) Tailor Your Resume:
– Tailor your resume points according to the job description.
6) Your Educational Background:
– Make sure you should mention your Percentage/CGPA and all educational institutions in reverse chronicle order.
7) Employment History:
– If in case you’re not a fresher and have gained experience before, please do mention that.
– Include your internships/start-ups/freelancing experience.
– Highlight your resume points using the STAR or CAR Approach.
8) Languages You Speak:
– It’s important to also tell them about languages you speak.
– Mention proficiency as Expert/Proficient/Learner/Beginner.
9) Position of Responsibilities & Extra-Curriculars:
– Highlight your contribution like initiatives taken, key accomplishments, outreach, etc.
– Mention KPIs and align with the STAR or CAR Approach.
