What to do, if you were not a part of any society?

A lot of freshers have never been a part of any society and they are not sure about how to prepare their resumes.

They start realizing in their final years that not having any experience in college clubs and societies will lead to a disadvantage.

You can definitely tailor your resume in such a case.

You just need to know how to.

Being a part of a society just gives you an added advantage and acts as a bonus but is not really compulsory.

It’s never the end of the world.

Here is how you can tailor your resume:

1) Start with a summary:
– This is an introduction that highlights your qualifications and relevant background for a specific job.
– You can also include your long-term goals here.

2) Include your relevant non-work experience:
– This does not mean just societies, clubs, and committees.
– This can include internships, coursework, fieldwork, school activities, volunteering, or any other such opportunity apart from societies that you have invested your time towards.

3) Include your skills and expertise:
– Describe the areas that you are good at and are capable of working on.
– Describe the area that you want to work for and are willing to give your 100% to work on it.
– These help to demonstrate what you have to offer to a company.
– Some examples are managing, directing, teamwork, communication skills, organization skills, leadership, customer service, etc.

4) Describe your educational background:
– This is a must for every resume as it is your strongest qualification.
– Additionally, include your GPA in your resume as well.
– Add your major and minor subjects as well.

5) Add relevant work experience (if any):
– If you have done any internships or short projects or part-time jobs, include them.
– Make sure that you mention a short summary with them as well.
– They should align with your goals and the job’s requirements.

6) Use quantitative facts:
– Instead of using qualitative facts, use numbers (if possible).
– Example: 15% of sponsorships were handled by myself.

7) Add volunteer work (if any):
– If not societies, you must do volunteer work outside of your college.
– This could be added as a replacement to college societies, but again is not compulsory.

8) Edit your resume according to the job description:
– Your resume should align with the job’s description.
– You can tailor your skills, achievements, and goals according to it if not anything else.
– It makes your resume ATS friendly.

Hope this helps!
